Sports update

St Joseph’s have had a really eventful few weeks in the build up to half term.

Teesside’s very own World BDO Darts Champion, Glen Durrant came into school.  He asked St Joseph’s to choose his walk on music for the prestigious Grand Slam tournament that begins on November 11th.  The school council picked three songs as a shortlist for KS2 and KS2 selected ‘I’m a believer’ by The Monkees.  We hope it brings Glen some luck!

We have had so many Tag Rugby events too.  Congratulations to the Year 5/6 Mixed team, Year 3/4 Mixed team and the Year 5 ‘B’ team for their fantastic efforts.  The Year 5/6 Girls team made St Joseph’s really proud with their runners up medal in the Plate competition.

The Tri-golf team also had a wonderful time at UCA.  They finished 11th in an event consisting of teams selected from all Middlesbrough primary schools.

Y5/6 RUGBY

On Tuesday 13th October, there was a rugby competition for
Y
ear 5 & Year 6 pupils at Middlesbrough College.
Eight children went in total, 4 boys and 4 girls.
In the morning, we had four matches. We won 1 and lost 3
In one of the matches we lost in the very last minute when
the other team scored their winning try.
In the afternoon, we had 5 matches in the Plate competition.
We won 2 and lost 3. We scored a total of 10 points in the
afternoon which was just one point away from 2nd place.
We came 3rd overall and we were really proud of our
achievements. All the pupils had a great day and we
all noticed something that we
could improve upon.

Y5 & Y6 FOOTBALL

On Wednesday 20th September there was a Y5/6 Football Competition
at
Middlesbrough Sports Village. In this competition there were 42
teams competing in total.

Our girls’ team drew 4 games, won 1 and lost 2. These
results helped them to get through to the finals. Playing
in the
final match was very intense and sadly they lost by just 1 point.
Our boys’ team drew 3 games, won 3 and lost 2. These
results also helped them to get through to the finals.
In the final match, the boys drew, so they had to do a penalty shoot out.
The other team won with a 3 goal win putting our boys in 2nd place.
All the pupils and adults who were at the competition,
were really pleased with the results. Every child from
our school received a plaque which will remind them
of their great success and the great day they had.

SPORTS WEEK

On Monday 3rd July, Sports Week began. We started the day with different activity courses which we all rotated around to complete. Our pupil’s favourite event was the Hoop-Toss. They liked this one because it was such good fun and they could go to their own limits (hard=3, medium=2, easy=1). Another game everyone enjoyed was the Baton Run. Children liked this because they liked working as a team.

The next day there was Wheelchair Basketball. Although some Y6 pupils
were out on their Transition Day, the rest of the Y6’s said it was amazing.
Another event on Tuesday was a Golf competition.
The Y3/4 pupils rated it 10/10 and said it was such good fun.
Finally on Tuesday, the last sport was Street Dance.
Everyone loved this and said they couldn’t wait to do it again.
The children said the reason they liked Street Dance was because
they liked dancing to the beat of the music

On Wednesday we had Cardio Tennis.
The children loved it and some children said it was the
most fun they had had in a long time.
Later  in the day, Y4 and Y5 were planning to do orienteering
but due to the English bad weather, it was cancelled.

On Thursday, we had Yoga Bugs.
Everyone found it challenging but still enjoyed it.
Pupils said that although it was quite difficult, they still found it relaxing.
After that, we had Hoop Starz and we couldn`t have asked for more!
We all loved getting into the groove with our hula hoops.

Friday was our last day of Sports Week.
To start this final day of Sports Week we had a grand race
between all the different houses within the school.
Our fastest running time around the school field time was 25.1 seconds.
After the race, Y6 had basketball (which was so fun and the scores were
really close), whilst other classes had Orienteering and Golf Target Challenge.
The final event of the day and to end Sports Week was Football
for the Y6’s which they all loved playing and competing together.

Everyone had an exciting and amazing Sports Week.
Thanks Mr Bartley for organising such a brilliant Sports Week.
