M&M Productions – Pinocchio

On September 13th 2017, we watched the amazing show ‘Pinocchio’

by M&M Productions in our school hall. It was such a great performance

and the best one we have seen yet! After the production, Year 6 took part

in a workshop with the actors. Everyone in Y6 enjoyed the workshop and

we learnt how to use the lights and sound effects. We also performed

part of the play with tips from the actors. We really enjoyed acting out

the part where Pinocchio was made by the toy maker.

STEM Week

On Tuesday 4th October 2017, STEM Week started in our school.

During the week there were lots of different science, technology and

maths activities. Classes throughout the school all had various science

topics and depending on their topic they carried out science experiments

in class. Everyone was also encouraged to make a science based

project or experiment at home and bring it into school. Awards

were given in assembly and many pupils received prizes for

their hard work. The highlight of the week was Professor

Onesmith with his big-bang experiments & slime making.

We all thought he was the best scientist ever!

Year 6 Visit to Trinity Catholic College

On Tuesday 4th October 2017, Year 6 pupils went on a visit to

Trinity Catholic College for various taster sessions. One of the sessions

was a science lesson with a teacher called Mrs Dixon and a professor

called Mike. We did lots of experiments which were really fun.

We also learnt two new scientific words: exothermic and endothermic.

Exothermic means to give off heat and endothermic means it collects

heat. We learnt lots of new things and had a really fun time.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

On Thursday 13th July 2017, Year 6 (with the help of Year 5),

performed a Midsummer Night’s Dream production at Trinity

Catholic College. Everyone was really nervous but tried not to

show it. The parents who came to watch it said it was amazing

and they gave us a standing ovation.

Mrs King said she was utterly speechless!

Overall pupils, parents and staff enjoyed every minute of it.

Y5 London Trip

Recently, Year 5 went on a very special trip to London.

They enjoyed the theatrical performance of Aladdin after

they had a delicious meal at the one and only Rainforest Café.

After a long day sight-seeing in London they spent the night in a

Premier Inn Hotel. The next morning, the very last treat for the pupils

was a visit to the Harry Potter Studios. Everyone had an amazing time.

M&M Productions

On Wednesday 5th April 2017, M&M Productions, a well beloved

company to our school, came and performed the breathtaking show

World Book Day

St Joseph’s celebrated World Book Day on Friday 3rd March 2017.

Everyone dressed up as their favourite book character, but with a silly twist,

e.g. a super hero wearing a turu, Where’s Wally with a flourescent

wig, a pirate with a tiara and Harry Potter with fairy wings!

Also, Andy Seed (an author of some fabulous books such as ‘Prankenstein’),

came to talk to us and show us his books. He made us all laugh

with his funny stories. Year 1 won ‘Best class costumes with a

twist’ and Mrs Turner won ‘Best teacher costume with a twist’.

Everyone had a fabulous day.

Jay’s Animal Encounters

On 28th February 2017, a man called Jay came to our school to talk to KS1

about different animals and to show the children real life animals up

close. The children were shown lots of animals such as meerkats,

snakes, lizards and many more. Many of the children were a little

bit frightened at first but they quickly overcame their fears.

Everyone enjoyed this wonderful experience and

hope to meet Jay and his animals again.

St Hilda’s Feast Day

On Thursday 17th November 2016 it was St Hilda’s Feast Day.

As part of the St Hilda’s Catholic Academy Trust, our school,

along with all the other schools in the academy,

sang the brand new academy song.

We loved singing this catchy, tuneful song.
